PYRC 1st Annual “Tennis / Pickleball” Summer Picnic - September 2025
The Penn Yan Racquet Club wrapped up its summer season with a delightful and highly successful picnic event this September, bringing together members, families, and friends for a day filled with laughter, good food, and community spirit. Taking place on a crisp late-summer afternoon at the Penn Yan Outlet park, the courts and picnic grounds buzzed with energy as players and guests gathered to celebrate another memorable season of tennis, pickleball, and fun.
The event featured a friendly mixed doubles round-robin tournament that set the tone for the day. Members of all skill levels took to the courts, pairing up in rotating teams that encouraged plenty of new introductions and friendly competition. Long rallies and great shots drew excitement from the sidelines. All players offered encouragement, shared laughs, and enjoyed the sunshine at the park.
After the final matches wrapped up, everyone gathered for the highlight of the afternoon: a generous picnic feast. Tables overflowed with an array of homemade dishes, grilled favorites, and local Finger Lakes specialties. The club provided burgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill, while members contributed salads, baked goods, and desserts that showcased plenty of culinary talent. A few volunteers organized games—cornhole, bocce, and Euchre card playing drew plenty of smiles.
As the sun dipped lower, longtime Penn Yan Racquet Club members reminisced about past seasons, while newer faces shared how welcome they felt since joining. The day closed with a toast of gratitude from the club president, who thanked everyone for their participation throughout the year and for making the picnic such a success. It was a perfect way to cap off the summer—a reminder that the club is more than just a place to play pickleball and tennis; it’s a place where friendships grow and memories are made.
New York State Empire Senior Games
Tennis and Pickleball - Cortland, NY from June 12th to June 14th 2024
The following PYRC members participated in the New York State Senior Games this week: George Dieffenbach, Vince Spagnoletti, Marianne Mahar, Nonie Flynn, Mike Morehouse (previous member), Marty Gochenaur, Lynne Gochenaur, Paul Jordan and Bill Reed. The results are as follows:
- George Dieffenbach won gold in men's 70-74 tennis singles
- Vince Spagnoletti won bronze in men's 80-84 tennis singles
- Marianne Mahar won silver in woman's pickleball 4.5 60-64 doubles and bronze in 4.5 60-64 mixed doubles
- Nonie Flynn came in 9th in woman's pickleball 4.0 60-64 doubles and 7th in women's 3.5 65-69 mixed doubles
- Marty Gochenuar and Mike Morehouse won bronze in men's pickleball 3.5 65-69 doubles
- Lynne Gochenaur won bronze in women's pickleball 3.0 55-59 doubles
- Paul Jordan and Bill Reed came in 4th in men's pickleball 4.0 60-64 doubles
The following individuals have now qualified for National Senior Games in Des Moine, Iowa in July, 2025:
